Per John Heyman on SI.COM:
"The Reds are ready to take offers on Adam Dunn, whose terrific power should draw decent interest despite the significant flaws in his game.
Lots of big names could be bandied about this trading season -- Jermaine Dye, Mark Buehrle, Carlos Zambrano, Troy Glaus, Scott Rolen, Mark Teixeira and perhaps even Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera are among the stars who are candidates to be moved -- but Dunn's is one name that's already out there as available, league sources told SI.com.
Dunn is what you might call the leadoff man in what could be a thrilling time for trades.
Power is about the most sought after skill right now, and Dunn has it an abundance. However, Dunn comes with a couple drawbacks, including the major question of where to play him. He's a poor and indifferent outfielder, and a few teams are now considering whether to try to acquire Dunn as a first baseman, though one scout warned, "He's terrible there. I wouldn't use him at first base."
Added one general manager, "I see him as more of an American League player and a DH."
All three Southern California teams could have interest in Dunn, as could anyone else seeking power. Dunn, who's making $10.5 million this season and has an option for $13 million next year (or a $500,000 buyout), is batting .250 with 15 home runs and 38 RBIs. While his power is elite, Dunn hasn't hit in the clutch. He's batting only .212 with runners in scoring position and .208 with runners on base.
Trading Dunn makes sense for the Reds, especially if they can get solid pitching in return -- they have allowed the most runs in the National League this season. They are one of baseball's most underachieving teams, and a bit of a shakeup could do them good, anyway. No way it could hurt."
I didn't realize how poorly Dunn has hit in the clutch. Don't do it Ned. We have enough players with poor "D".
Power may be about the most sought after thing. Maybe not. I still tend to think that young SPs are the coin of the realm, and probably what the Reds are trying to get for Dunn. I just don't see teams wanting to trade guys akin to Verlander, Cain, King Felix, Billz, etc., for a bopper without a position who strikes out a lot. The other position players identified are not defensive liabilities and have more well-balanced hitting skills. Miggy Cabrera is the holy grail, and Teix is also a big impact guy, but with more immediate contract issues.
Some of the listed guys could be traded for each other, but it would seem that most of these teams are looking to get very good cheap young talent, as opposed to swapping contract problems.
The Dodgers and Halos figure to get a lot of ink as the "other" team, as they have a lot of good looking kids - many now up in the bigs. The Snakes, Rays and Rox also have a lot of good looking prospects, but they don't seem to have the ability or desire to add expensive contracts. The Pods have Linebrink.
Every silver lining has a cloud.Count me among the not interested crowd. Seems to me his acquisition would be a lot like Pierre's: (cue Cinderella), "Don't know whatcha got..." till ya got him. And you don't like it, cause he's one-dimensional and hurts the team in every other category to the point you wanna cue the late, great Ray Charles, "Hit the Road Ja.. err... Juan..."
In other words, the Dunn deal should never be done.
I'm Dunn with him.
I Dunn don't want him.
You Dunn?
Yeah Dunn would be a lot like Pierre, a one-dimensional offensive player who is horrible defensively and in the clutch.
We need him why? Oh, yeah the power. But not at the expense of everything else we need/want in a player.
I think Plan B of going with the kids works well for me right now. We need to see what we have before we can assess what we need to get in terms of a trade.
You're no fun, BPK. Think of the adventures in outfield defense with Pierre, Dunn, and Gonzo patroling the green spaces. Gonzo would probably win a gold glove just on comparison.
It's a Dunn non-deal. Now Cabrera, on the other hand...I'm listening to offers.

Oh, help me! LOL! In a weird, sick sort of way...

Forever listening there!

I think trading Pierre would take even stronger perfume than that !

"Listening?" Hell, I'd be banging down the door screaming offers!!

That would be sweet. I would give up quite a bit for Ichiro. I don't like his softball swing, but he is such a clutch and consistent hitter, he would help us immensly.
I'm a no on Dunn. Like you guys said, too one-dimensional. Everyone has their warts, but he's got many. I've watched quite a few Reds games this year, and I honestly cannot recall any clutch hits, or even just regular hits. He seems to strike out/walk/hit a homerun, in that order. And I cannot even imagine a day where we field an OF of Gonzalez, Pierre, Dunn. The SP would go home.

As would 3/4 of the fans.
The Easternmost in Quality...the Westernmost in Flavor!!Not a Dunn fan and never have been. With our luck he would be more apt to strike out with runners on than hit one out. I had rather wait and get the right bat than go with the Dodger norm of trying to pick up a fast fix. Lets try thinking long term. And when I say the right bat and long term together I do not mean another Pierre signing.
I think the Reds made Dunn available now is that there will be probaly be better players made available later. So the Reds put out the word on Dunn and get whomever is the most desperate to jump.

"Good is not good when better is expected." Vin ScullyI was a Dunn fan, early on, as I could see the potential if he compacted his swing and just let his natural strength drive the ball. Unfortunately, he never did this and I'm afraid he's too far along in his career to make a change that dramatic. I don't know if he was stubborn, if he didn't have the proper coaching when he needed it or if he just didn't have the tools to make the adjustment, but I feel he'd be too much of a liability the way the Dodgers are shaped now (free swingers in Pierre, Nomar and, lately, Kent.)
