I'm currently awaiting the "refresh" of the Macbook Pro line... Had hoped it would've been part of this announcement... I anxiously wait...

Since Apple doesn't do "shows" (ie Macworld Expo) anymore, they really don't do multi-product announcements anymore, since they don't have to get it all in at one venue. When we come up with something new, we either do a big "ta-da" announcement, like this week, or we just release it. So, don't be too discouraged. If/when they are ready to upgrade it, it'll be announced.

Seems like a bad design, there. Most of the good parts have been replaced by an iPad (and, good as they are, iPads don't have THAT kind of technology. Yet.)

Yes, seems the designer is obviously unaware of Padma's charms. Maybe sticking the thing to her foot or wrist would be a better design option.

'zul, we were there today. Seats aren't perfect, but they're pretty good, nice sightlines, up high enough to see everything. Life is good.

Yep. Definitely feeling the Apple love in here! :fierce:

I was underwhelmed by the iPad, too, but then I was on a 5-hr bus ride from NYC back to Syracuse tonight, and I fought so much in a tiny cramped space to get my laptop into a comfortable viewing position for some TV shows I'd downloaded, that I found myself thinking, "Hmm. An iPad would kind of be nice right now...."

    That vanished quickly, though.

P.S. It is -4 degrees. I hate Syracuse.

Interesting development at the kid's school. He started his second semester this week and his AP Government teacher asked the students about their political beliefs. Mostly through a raising of hands. She asked how many considered themselves liberals and conservatives. The kid feels he is conservative - I blame his mother. Anyway, she offhandedly said that those students who feel they are conservative that they should expect a C or less in the class. Kid mentioned it over dinner on Thursday and I had a word with the principal (a horse's ass) and he said it should be taken as a joke. I reminded him that the teacher's responsibility was to teach and to leave all political dogma in the parking lot.

I was tempted to speak to this teacher, but the kid begged me to hold off and take a wait and see attitude. I think he is still ticked that I became friends with his US History teacher, last year. Herself, she is fit to be tied. Yesterday, she felt the proper course would be to horsewhip the teacher. The wife, a model of restraint.

Oh well, another day in the 925. We are going to the driving range in a few minutes. The greenskeepers are keeping everyone off of our favorite course. It seems that it is not draining real well and most fairways are now water hazards.

That reminds me of an incident when I was in the third grade. We had to "vote" for who we wanted to be president, and every single person raised their hand for the same candidate. I raised my hand for no one, because I knew even then it was totally inappropriate to ask kids to air their beliefs like that. I got in trouble for not conforming, got held for detention, and my parents got called. My parents were, of course, livid. I've never forgotten that moment because it made me so angry.

It's so inappropriate to have everyone raise their hands to say what their beliefs are. Ugh. I am not looking forward to the day I have kids who are ready to be sent off to school (very, very far into the future). As more time passes, the more home schooling sounds like a really awesome option.

In Texas, that teacher would be pretty LIBERAL with D's and F's at semester's end. He/she would also be unemployed shortly thereafter.

I can relate Grabs. My boy, when in High School (2006-7) out here South of San Francisco, on the peninsula, started a "Young Republicans club." (I told him it was a bad idea), but the kid is stubborn. From that date forward, students, faculty, the administration...you name it, were at war with him and the other 2 poor slugs that joined the club. Their only voice of defense was the the school Vice Principal, their faculty advisor, who spent his year trying to keep them safe. But in the process my son's was vandalized twice, his locker torched, numerous threats were made against him. The school administrators asked that they disband the club. You'd have thought they were a terrorist group or something.

All this did was toughen up the boy and he left for MCRD (Marine Corps. boot camp) 3 days after graduation.

Yeah, but in Texas, had the teacher been a conservative and threatened the liberal kids with sub-C's, he/she would have been nominated for Teacher of the Year.

Chris, my kid (14-year old Ezra) is a freshman at Jesuit in Sacramento. For some reason, his Spanish teacher feels compelled to go on a political rant (on a daily basis!)... For HALF OF THE CLASS...! Early on, they were give the opportunity to identify their political leanings. They were given THREE choices: 1) Democrat, 2) Republican, -or- 3) PROGRESSIVE... It went downhill from there...!

Later on, during one of the many "they shouldn't be allowed to say 'that'" speels, my son was merely pointing out the existance of that pesky little thing called The Bill of Rights... when the teacher challenges him "Why don't you just go and look it up in the Constitution," Ezra paused, "Hold that thought for just a minute'l ad he reached into his backpack & pulled out the pocket version of the U.S. Constitution...! The class went nuts...! He's my new hero...!

[For the record, he/we are thrilled with the school, even this particular class/teacher.]

We had a similar thing back in eighth grade. We had to vote for either Ronald Reagan or Jesse Unruh. Me, being a rabble rouser cast my vote for the Peace and Freedom Party candidate. I spent that afternoon in Mr. Knotts' office explaining why I would vote for a Socialist candidate. The dad had to come down from Indian Springs to get in the principal's face during his lunch. Good times, good times. Needless to say, that teacher never discussed elections of any time after that. After that, I was labeled the Commie. Pretty good stigma for a small town.

I can relate to your son, Vicente. Mid-seventies, high school in Walnut Creek and I figure the school needs an Anti-Establishment Club. Unfortunately, I attracted the school's five anarchists and six Maoists. They were too strident for me, but as I was the founder of the club, I got a daily dose of "advice" from teachers, counselors, administrators and the odd coach. I abdicated because the members of the club were beginning to scare me and I think some of my grades were being affected by the company I was keeping.

I know two of the members ended up in Nicaragua helping out the Sandinistas. I imagine both are still down there. I hope.

Even though the boy has passed on Baylor, he was pretty excited about that result. I thought he was down to two choices for college. Now, he has four - UC-Davis, UOP, Seattle and St. John's. Why he wants to go to school in NYC is beyond me, but he is checking on how much it would cost to fly back and forth for his mother to do his laundry.

Chris, if you love your son, keep him far away from UC Davis... Not a b-a-d place - actually very good if he aspires to be a neighborhood vet (great vet school!). I'm partial to my alma mater, University of the Pacific (Go Tigers!), for obvious reasons (despite the $$$, Mary will appreciate the close proximity to mama's house! Seattle - as you know - bring your raincoat! I seemingly always had mold between the toes the entire time I lived there..! The Great Pacific Northwest is definitely NOT politically neutral...! St. Johns also a good choice... but it IS NYC (If he goes there, looks like you & the Mrs will be moving to Yankee territory sometime soon...!).

You would do well to send him laundry $$$; but he'll likely opt for the Mama Wash & Fold service plan...
