I'd rather he shut it down for a week or even two and get that toe right than to keep pitching like crap and risk getting his mechanics screwed up long term.
The Easternmost in Quality...the Westernmost in Flavor!!It IS absolutely the righ thing to do, short term and long term.
Dizzy Dean ruined his arm and his career by trying to pitch after he got his toe broken in the All Star Game by Earl Averill's line drive back up the middle.
Isn't that how everything started going downhill for Gagne, when he came back too soon in spring training after spraining his knee? Next thing you know, he injured his arm and then his back.
It looks like it will be Tron and a cast of thousands for the next week or so.....thanks Joe for burning up our pen. What I would give for a pitching coach with three working brain cells?
I'll play the radio on Southern stations because Southern Belles are Hell at night...grabarkewitz:It looks like it will be Tron and a cast of thousands for the next week or so.....thanks Joe for burning up our pen. What I would give for a pitching coach with three working brain cells?
I think we were hoping to give some kids time to develop over the 1st half before expecting them to help. It seems like it's time to start cutting some of the vet filler, like Milton & Vargas and calling up guys like Elbert & Lindblom, to join the already recalled McDonald - who may be the fill-in closer until Eggplant returns.

Elbert already got the call. Pitched a couple innings, last night. I think the Blue are waiting to see if Schmidt can come up with one more good outing for the 'topes. I still think that Lindblom is Plan C, at this point.
I'll play the radio on Southern stations because Southern Belles are Hell at night...Me thinks Elbert is up for two reasons:
1) to help the ever-depleting 'pen, and
2) so a certain group of Canadian scouts can get a look-see.
And McD might indeed get a shot at closing a game or two, for the exact same reasons.

#2 absolutely to my mind in the game Saturday night, and Elbert didn't disappoint. 2.2 hitless innings, 1 BB, 3Ks.

Come to think of it, the Dodgers could use a bullpen arm like that!
What? Oh. Wait...
