If I had to label my eight grade favorites, it would be Zepplin, Jimi, Sabbath and very early Deep Purple. Let's face it, there wasn't much to choose from for a whitebread kid in Nor-East Cali at that time. It was either C&W or Billy Graham on the radio.

I was/am a pussy when it came to musical influences. Beatles, Beach Boys, Elton John, Moody Blues, Motown, the Band, CCR....

All great bands, Greg. Let's face it, the Sixties was the greatest era of music. Although, Elton's heyday was the 70's. If I had to pick my musical influences for the sixties, I would include the Doors, Procul Harum, the Yardbirds and the Who, along with the Supremes and the Temptations. I think I was the only kid in my junior high who loved Motown.

I'll play the radio on Southern stations because Southern Belles are Hell at night...

Actually Weaverville, a distant suburb of Redding. Our idea of art was a square dance followed by a turkey shoot.

Don't forget R&B influences: among the greatest is Earth, Wind & Fire; and I must include the late, great Michael Jackson (the black version!)... RIP.

(Sinatra is probably still among the best too...!)

...and Tesla, one of the greatest bands no one seems to have heard of. My brother knows Frank Hanlon and never misses a Tesla concert in Sacramento.

EWF was probably my favorite band during the late seventies. Even saw them a few years ago when Maurice White's son was running the band. Still a great show.

With all of the posts I thought we had traded for Smoltz and he was starting tonight. I didn't realize we had a ton of folks reliving their golden years.

We travel(ed) there to play Little League Sectionals (Eureka, actually) Definitely pretty country, though!

What is the name of the local burger joint right where the highway turns...? Also, a nice little coffee roaster outside of town along the river... Sure seemed out of place...

    Greg,
Nobody who likes the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Motown, the Band and CCR can be a pussy. We'll even give you a pass for the Moody Blues and Elton John.

The only burger place I remember is Miller's where SR3 and SR299W meet. Gotta remember, we left the burg by 1972, although we passed through there a couple years ago and there was a great pizza place on Main Street, Christopher Robin's. Still a pretty small town although there was a lot of new buildings that I didn't remember.

Dude, all this back-and-forth stuff over the years, and I never knew you grew up in Weaverville. My wife's grandmother lives there and we have a cabin in Coffee Creek. Heck - you might even know Alice Jones (wife's Grandma). She brags that she knows everyone in Weaverville.

"The Last Waltz" is one of the greatest live performances ever. Elton John at Dodger Stadium 1975 was the greatest show I ever went to. "God Only Knows" chokes me up with its simple beauty. "Surfs Up" with its complex beauty. Marvin Gaye was a genius. "Days of Future Passed" is underrated. Oh, and I want "From Silver Lake" played at my funeral.

    How'm I doin'?

I agree with all of this. O.K., so this gives me the perfect chance to break this out. I know this might come off as bragging, but who cares? This is one of the coolest experiences for me... as you might have read me mention sometime in January, I got the chance to meet Brian, and here were some of the highlights...

Alas, the last one is actually of me (at least my legs), but the person with me had to sneak it and because of the person who got his elbow in the way and everything, just didn't come out.

Last I heard, the Beatles were exploring the idea of selling their music directly from their own site and eliminating the middle-man. They're probably the only band in the universe who could get away with that. Especially since they have all that stuff in the vaults that every Beatle fanatic (not me, of course, but you know) would die to have access to. The Beatles could probably clear another 1 billion sales electronically.

Yeah, that's the story right now. It would be a great deal for them, as they can reap much more of the profits, rather than having to share it with the other Apple. To be honest, it is a great business idea, but then again, Apple Corps. generally takes FOREVER and a day to release something. I'm still waiting for the official release of "Let It Be" on DVD.

Yeah. But isn't that an issue with United Artists, the original distributor of the film? Or is it Paul McCartney getting his revenge because he hated the album?

Probably right, though I can think of two big reasons why they should still consider going with iTunes:

Over 175 million iPods, iPod Touches, iPhones, etc. have been sold since the 1st one came out, and
iTunes is already a finished and robust download service, rather than having to create and develop their own.

    Just saying.

That's true about United Artists, I forgot about that. On the other hand, with Macca, he did get his revenge on the album by putting out "Let It Be... Naked" in 2003, which was essentially a deSpectorized affair. Some interesting mixes, definitely.
