Well...um...okay....
The Easternmost in Quality...the Westernmost in Flavor!!Let's print those WS tickets...
I'm wondering if that's a grab to allow for another utility guy on the Dodgers to be dealt in part of a package for a pitcher. Maybe this is just a first move? Maybe? Or perhaps they're going to cut Getback? I mean, does this move even make sense?
The Easternmost in Quality...the Westernmost in Flavor!!Why? Does Ned think that every MI we get from the Nats will be as good as Marlon Anderson? Maybe Neddie felt the need for us to acquire a fat, out of shape MI with no range and a porous bat? If that was his challenge, I would say he succeeded.
I'll play the radio on Southern stations because Southern Belles are Hell at night...Just don't get this move, does he replace Castro with Hu and Abreu coming up on Tuesday? His bat doesn't add much off the bench, just a little more power than Castro.

At least Castro, Hu and Abreu can see their feet and play some defense. Belliard hasn't done either in two years.

We watched him play in July in DC. I shook my head and asked a Nats fan why he was even on the team. Guy couldn't explain it, either.

This move didn't seem necessary. I was just telling my sister a few hours ago that they need someone off the bench as a power threat. He doesn't fit that bill.
And Belliard is not the "character guy," either, that they claim to be so fond of acquiring. Hmmmmm, statutory rape, throwing objects at fans in the Dominican--sounds like a gem.

One of the posters at Kissyface say he is hitting over .320 over the past two months. Maybe he could have some value.

Maybe Padilla needs a roomie.
The Easternmost in Quality...the Westernmost in Flavor!!WTF???
My sentiments exactly ...
The mad scientist formerly known as ngrossbeefchopper:WTF???
What he said. Hell, what everybody said. I just don't get it.
"I know, everybody funny, now you funny too."Well, the Mannylocks sold like hotcakes last Aug/Sept . . . Ronnielocks anyone?

What's not to get? Our GM is an idiot. We need a bat with some pop for our bench, so our GM goes out and gets a tubby back-up MI who has had some luck against lefties lately and declares this will help make the Dodgers contenders in the post-season.
Sometimes I think I'm too cynical, then Colletti does something like this and I'm back to thinking I'm too easy on the guy.
I don't understand this at all. Who on the 25 man roster is not Better than Belliard? I'll take Loretta for his experience and Castro for his glove any day. What we need is a power hitter off the bench not a chunk muffin infielder. He really can't play shortstop, so Castro should be safe. (Castro also had the key hit in the 12th inning yesterday to set up the winning run.)
Just don't get it.

"Is a Puzzlement!"
Not sure why everyone's all up in arms about this. Yes, I totally agree that the move was unneccessary, but it doesn't sound as though we gave up much (Garcia's not even a top 30 Dodger prospect and I can't imagine that the PTBNL is going to be a big deal for a 5 week rental like this) and if we can avoid adding him to the roster until tomorrow, then we've reached September 1 and getting him onto the roster won't be as hard.
I do agree that I would rather have given up nothing and added Hector Luna, but Belliard has been red-hot for the last two months. So there's some hope, but either way I really think this is going to be a completely insignificant move.

He does have to be on the 40 man today to be eligible for the playoffs though (I would think Ned wants him on the playoff roster), and the only one that is a no-brainer is DFAing Repko. So where's the 40 man spots for Eyechart or Ohman if and when they are ready to come back? Only other player on the DL right now is Kuroda, and if he has any chance of coming back this year, he won't be put on the 60 day.
Sounds like they also want him on the 25 man today, but I can see Kershaw technically being optioned and then recalled tomorrow for that move.

And Belliard is not even a left-handed hitter. How many more righty infielders with no power do they need off the bench?
The PTBNL in the Belliard trade is Victor Garate. I'm not one of the minor league experts, but I was under the impression that he was a fairly highly regarded prospect. I checked out his stats at Chattanooga, and they look pretty damn good to me.

Holy moly... really? Indeed, I've heard good things about Garate.
- Kyle... CrossRoads ChurchI've also heard good things about Garate (someone called him a poor mans Fuentes on DT), but he was going to be blocked by Sherrill, Kuo, Leach & maybe even Elbert (3 of the 4 are under the Dodgers control for a while ...not too sure how long the Bums control Kuo) if they keep him in the bully so I don't think Logan or Ned are all that worried about dealing him.
The story ends with me putting him in the wall!I love Garate, but he is pretty much a LOOGY. I would've loved to keep him as you can never have too much pitching, especially lefthanded pitching, but you have to give up something to get something.

Ya' think we got something?
SamAdams:Ya' think we got something?
For this year, yeah. Belliard isn't gonna go out and start everyday.....I hope, but he does give our bench some pop, along with Thome that we didn't have. I am pretty sure Garate won't help us this year and I am thinking that Ned needs to win to keep his job.
I'll play the radio on Southern stations because Southern Belles are Hell at night...Plus we needed the 40-man roster spot, which if I am not mistaken, Garate was on.
Don't like losing quality prospects for a guy like Belliard when there were other areas of concern ahead of another RHH infielder, but all in all not much to be unhappy about.
My apologies to Belliard for responding WTF when he joined the club and to Ned for hating this trade. I'm delighted he has proven me wrong.

Marlon Anderson v.2
Still if Blake doesn't get hurt this trade wouldn't have been that needed.
Now that Manny is finally signed, lets get Pierre off the team1 to 30 of 30
