Jeez. This hurts the Giants more than us, though. The Dodgers control their own destiny at this point. It's easy, all they have to do is keep winning.

Evening, Gents. Fun game, even better listening to Krukow and Miller giving it up for Rusty, Loney and Blake. I am hoping I can play along with tomorrow's game. Got some nasty numbness in my left hand because of the shoulder thing. Got an MRI and all the other stuff my insurance company will pay for and besides the broken scapula and collar bone not getting any better, I have a pinched nerve in my shoulder too boot.

I swear this team owns Matt Cain, big time.

Just got in from monthly poker night. Got to watch the game since the host is almost as big a blue honk as we are. Fortunately it wasn't at some of the other host sites where they basically bleed Halo red. A few random observations from the various posts:

    1) Tomko sucks
    2) Why is FP Santangelo not being considered for Mt. Rushmore?
    3) Why on earth would Johnny Roseboro be on the Mt. Rushmore of worst Dodgers?
    4) Channel 9 is useless. I can't believe they had to cut away from the end of the game that quick and leave us hanging with the end of the Putrid debacle in the balance.

Poor fella, he has no idea

Pastor, I had the same question about why you included John Roseboro on your bad list. Especially when you have Jason Grabowski, Andruw Jones, Jason Schmidt, Kevin Malone, Mark Sweeney, and on and on to choose.

Roseboro was an excellent defensive catcher and handled the best pitching staff in Dodger history with skill.

My Los Angeles Mt. Rushmore list would be:
Koufax, Drysdale, Wills, and Perranoski. Just my faves.

So, I was having an interesting discussion right now with my good friend, who's a Yankees fan. We were talking about Jeter who, if you didn't know, passed up Lou Gehrig tonight and became the all-time hits leader in Yankees' history.

We're talking and we're discussing the career of Jeter, etc., and then I asked him that, if he had to put together a Mt. Rushmore of the Yankees, who would it be? So, as you can guess, I want to ask you guys to do that for the Dodgers. Thought of starting a thread on this, but probably not thread worthy...

So, the Dodgers decide to put a Mt. Rushmore like thing in the hills behind Dodger Stadium. You only have four people that you can use and they have to represent the best of the best when it comes to the Dodgers. Four people that represent everything great about this organization. Now they can be anyone within the organization and there's no time limit.

    Who do you pick?

Gotta be only LA Dodgers, so it would be Koufax, Fernando, Vin and Walter Alston.

Gents, I confess a complete brain fart, and didn't even realize it until I was lying in bed last night. I sat straight up and thought (loudly), "What the heck was I thinking???"

See, I wasn't even born when the hoopla went down between Roseboro and Juan Marichal. But it was Marichal I was thinking of when I stoopidly typed "Roseboro". I was probably about 18 years old when I learned that at the end of his career, Marichal signed with the Blue. I couldn't believe the Dodgers would stoop so low as to sign the man who hit Roseboro in the head with a bat.

Juan Marichals' line with the Dodgers:
    2 starts, 6 IPs, 9 earned runs, 2.66 WHIP.

Obviously there have been worse players, but the very notion of such a signing has always baffled me.

That's the stickler, isn't it? The premise is that this monument would be in the hills outside the stadium, which brings up the issue of whether or not Brooklyn should be included. But because of Jackie's nation-wide impact combined with the many different ethnic backgrounds that define Los Angeles, how can you not include Jackie?

This may be a major reason why the Dodgers never construct a Mt. Rushmore or anything like it.

Jackie would make it because regardless of whether or not you had any valid reasons not to include him (like, "not Brooklyn" only) the uproar over his absense would overshadow everything else such a memorial was meant to be.

Also, it would have to wait until Vin is no longer with us (and I don't just mean, "calling the games" ), because he'd never allow himself to be included on such a thing.

Yeah, Marichal should have never been signed. He was the most hated of the hateds ones. Plus, he was obviously washed up at the time.

Apparently, though, he and Roseboro became friends afterwards. That's ironic but so did Bobby Thomson and Ralph Branca after the 1951 playoff home run. However, Branca is rankled now that it has come out that the VaGiants were stealing signs illegally with a spy in the scoreboard. Most of them have acknowledged they knew what pitch was coming, but Thomson won't man up and admit it. For that reason, Ralph has lost a lot of respect for him. I'm with Ralph, of course.

I remember when Marachal signed. First time he took the mound, Vinnie or Jerry said words to the effect of "and the Dodger fans show they forgive him." Well, they couldn't count ME among them. The only Dodger I never applauded and I don't care if Roseboro forgave him or not, I never have. Worst Jint. EVER.

Marichal will always be scum in my eyes. I am sure that in a different age, he would've been suspended for life. I still never got why he didn't get suspended for the rest of the '65 season, at least. If Giamatti had been commissioner then, Marichal would've been working in the Mexican League or one of the Japanese leagues by 1966. I never bought Roseboro's sincerity about forgiving Marichal. I have to think that it was brokered by those in power, at the time. I am betting someone in the commissioner's office asked Roseboro to be a good soldier and accept the apology because Marichal was a HOFer and one of the leading players in making the game International.
