Funny timing with the Thome acquisition. I believe James truly believed (around mid-season) what some were saying about his ceiling coming down on him if he didn't start hitting home runs. So his first reaction was, "fine, I'll swing out of my shoes." But that didn't work, so he finally relaxed. He had to figure that hitting .300 and becoming "Mark Grace" wasn't such a bad ceiling, all things considered.

Having watched the kid several times over the past two years, I can agree. The kid has great stuff, but he is not mentally tough and can really get down, quite easily. I would not be shocked if the Giants attempt to deal him again. I don't think the kid needs a pitching coach as much as he needs someone to build up his self esteem and confidence.

Dude, we've got six pitchers worthy of making a playoff start. We just don't have the dominating Ace. Although, if Wolf isn't shaken up too badly, he certainly is unhittable in the past 8 starts or so.
