just saw on Diamond Leung's twitter, no details yet other than literally "report: Vicente Padilla shot".
Mike Scioscia's tragic illness - the blog! For Dodger analysis, reviews, and hilarity.Sounds like he shot himself in the leg accidentally. Shades of Plaxico Burress.

Plenty of details are available in a Nicaraguan web site here, but you need to be able to read Spanish.
I assume he was despondent over losing Hot Lips to the limo driver.
Every silver lining has a cloud.Lots of different versions of this story.
Conspiracy part of me says he's a drug lord down there and something went wrong.
Closer version of truth will probably be he was drunk off his ass and shot himself while playing with a gun.

Never a dull off season with the Dodgers.
I'll play the radio on Southern stations because Southern Belles are Hell at night...maybe he figured the bandages on his leg wound take the attention away from that ugly thing he calls a head

From a poster on Kissyface's site:
Peter Pascarelli on ESPN's podcast, quoting an unnamed MLB exec: "Vincente Padilla is either drunk or stupid 24 hours a day."
Toes tells me it is now being reported he did NOT shoot himself, but was accidentally shot by his shooting instructor. Having a shooting instructor that can't handle a gun is, like, well, Rick Honeycutt as a pitching coach....

I bow to your greatness. That last line is pure gold.

What's next - Hot Lips claiming Frank introduced her to the limo driver and provided champagne?
Every silver lining has a cloud. When the truth comes out, it will be reported that Padilla was home in Nicargua, undergoing "assassin" training as part of Hot Lips attempt to wrest control of the Dodgers from estranged hubby Frank.
When all is said and done, Vincente (has convinced himself that he) will have an "ownership" role with the team! Chaulk it up to "pillow talk" (ewe, icky!)...!
This has the makings of a Pink Panther movie...

Or the gun was aimed at Vicente's head when it went off and the bullet took a left turn as it left the barrel and saw Vicente's face?

I'll say it again. The Dodgers led all of Major League Baseball in ERA, H, R, ER, WHIP, OBA, BAA, and H/9. All of this without a true ace or even a veteran in the bullpen until the trade deadline. Rick Honeycutt is not an orator or politician, but he IS a damned good pitching coach. I saw that up close in Vero Beach.
Everyone on this site seems to be enamored with Don Mattingly and he's okay by me. However, our offense did not measure up to our pitching, despite having some of the best young players in baseball. The team even brought in Jeff Pentland to help, yet nobody puts any blame on Mattingly for the regression of Russell Martin or the stagnancy of James Loney.
Please, just get off Honeycutt's case. He is not the problem, but part of the solution.

Lighten up, Francis. It was a joke.

Well that is one opinion. But, doesn't Honeycutt also have Ken Howell to assist with the pitching staff? Honeycutt also has some of the best arms in the game and yet they also regressed in some cases. Sure, the offense struggled and Mattingly is responsible for that, but compared to previous seasons, this offense was power-packed. The same cannot be said for the pitching. Billz regressed, Kershaw seemed to hit a wall and if it wasn't for Howell's bullpen, the pitching would've been pedestrian. If anything, Howell deserves more credit for the numbers you promote as Torre abused his pen while Honeycutt's starters were hardly warriors.
Granted, I don't know Honeycutt personally and can only comment on what I can see but he has taken two of the very best arms in the game in Billz and Kershaw and made them tentative and tried to turn them into finesse pitchers. That is fine if you have an arm like Eric Stults or other soft tossers, but when you have guys who have electric stuff, you don't tell them to pitch away on every pitch. If Honeycutt is not the problem, then who is instructing these pitchers to pitch away? I don't see it with Belisario, Kuo, Tron, etc... and even Broxton showed signs of pitching inside more often, so I can't blame Howell. Process of elimination leaves Honeycutt.
I'll play the radio on Southern stations because Southern Belles are Hell at night...I'm pretty much with SA on Honeycutt. He's not the best pitching coach, but he's certainly not among the bottom of the bunch.
The regression of some of the kids comes from just that - they're still young. Late-season regression is pretty normal for guys in the early 20's figuring out how to last 220 innings in 6 months, and still be at their BEST come playoff time.
My only gripe with Honeycutt is that he apparently doesn't teach the younger guys how to drive hitters off the plate. Of course, he could be pulling his hair out, having told them time and again, but they don't do it. Also, since Torre calls the pitches, it becomes difficult to blame Honeycutt for that.
- Kyle... CrossRoads ChurchSpeaking of Torre, there was one other stat that the Dodgers' pitching staff led the league...Intentional Bases on Balls. Another classic example of overmanaging on the part of Joe Torre. Our staff allowed the fewest base runners in the NL, yet Torre felt the need to walk more batters intentionally than any other manager. Maybe the aggressiveness from the staff that some of you pine for, needs to start at the manager's office. You want them to pitch inside and Torre doesn't want them to pitch to some batters at all.
And, isn't this the place where I was one of the few voices applauding the signing of Padilla while others were concerned that he pitched inside TOO MUCH? You can't have it both ways.
Hey, it's five months until a game really means anything, so it's time to stir it up a bit.
