    Gagne's in...and gives up a single.

Never thought I'd see him in Dodger Blue again.

Probably not serious and it's just being careful so early but...

@dylanohernandez Casey Blake exited the game after 2 innings because of a strained side muscle.

On the other hand, the man is 84 years and AND beardless.

Suddenly it may be a good thing that Ned signed all those infielders.

Did anyone get the attendance figure from Tuesday's game/debacle against the Rockies? The place looked almost vacant. In fact, I can't remember seeing Holman Stadium that empty during spring training. I'm sure the "official " attendance figure will be hyped up to make it look decent, but there weren't many butts in the seats.

Any predictions yet on individual Dodger performances for the 2010 season? I'll make one right now. I think Matt Kemp is going to enter Albert Pujols-level elitism this year, with more the 40 bombs, 120 RBI and a .300+ BA. And, yes it's bold, but I think Matt Kemp will be the NL MVP. Too optimistic?

KevinElsterWasFAT, I like the way you think.... Give me some of that KoolAid, and count me in on the Kemp breakout year...!

Put me down for a HUGE I-told-you-so...

Family friend (primarily of my son, Ezra) and former Yuba City Honkers (one of the all-time great High School mascots!) standout, A's catching prospect Max Stassi hit his first BOMB in his second ST game! The 18-year-old is the youngest Oakland ST invite is expected to be heading to minor league camp tomorrow, but he has already solidified his position as a fast-mover in the Oakland organization... Max would look great in Blue...!

I'm hoping that Kershaw becomes a true Ace and can hold his own against Halliday, Carpenter, and like in the playoffs.

Now that Manny is finally signed, lets get Pierre off the team

Very sad news, this morning. Willie Davis passed away, yesterday, at 69. I remember seeing him play when I was a kid and he was one of my favorite players for a while. As I got older, he kind of disappointed me ( three errors in the '66 World Series, never taking the next step and being a superstar, etc....), but he was part of one of Al Campanis' best steals - getting Mike Marshall for him when it was obvious that Davis was nearly done.

I'll play the radio on Southern stations because Southern Belles are Hell at night...

I'm predicting that Manny is going to have a very frustrating year, but that it won't matter, because our young core of hitters takes another big step forward. I think that Kemp will improve on his 2009 season, but not to the insane breakout level some are predicting (which is still a likely outcome). I think Ethier will put up another solid season, improving on his BA and eclipsing 30/100 again, but not by that much. I think Furcal will have a big year and get his career back on track. The big up n comer will be Loney, who I think finds his power stroke for 18-25 HR, improves his OBP to the 380-400 range, and becomes a real threat in the middle of the lineup. I predict the BP to be NASTY again and the big 4 SP to all do very well, but each will spend decent time on the DL, except TT, who wins 18 (that's for you, Mike) with a sub-3 ERA. I also think we'll see a young arm play pitch well in the 5 hole for the majority of the year (my guess is McD) and we'll see some serious flashes from the likes of Elbert, Lindblom and a mystery pitcher who fill-in for injuries.

I also think Lincecum's arm falls off, the DBacks regret trading Scherzer (SEVERELY), and we battle it out with the Rockies who end up with the WC.

    Let's get it on!!!!!

Willie's passing yesterday made me pause. I thought about 1967, when I first played Little League, and first became aware of the Dodgers and Major League Baseball. Davis, Crawford, Fairly, Parker, Drysdale, Osteen, Sutton; those guys were gods. It was so much easier then. I didn't really know much about stats, nor did I care. All I knew is that they were my guys, and I'd root them on, whether the results were good or bad. I didn't call them names if they struck out, or gave up a home run, no more than my parents or coaches would if I failed. I wish it was still that simple.

One of the downsides of not being a SoCal native is that I know very little about Willie Davis. Sure, I know plenty about Dodger legends like Koufax, Drysdale, Snider, and the rest, but Davis was never that level of star and therefore never really recieved the press and reverence that those guys did and still do get. From what I've been reading lately, he was a big hero to a lot of LA kids in the 60s and early 70s.

Truth. 3-Dog was a favorite of mine. He could fly and was a really good CF (who gets the bad rap because of one crap game in the World Series.) He had this rumbling deep voice.

About 20 years ago or so, the Dodgers played one of their last Old-Timers games. Koufax vs. Drysdale on the mound. Anyway, a buddy of mine had a cousin who worked in the Dodgers FO and he got us in before the game to watch the old-timers in batting practice. They were like little kids, giggling and busting on each other. At one point, Willie D hit one in the gap--BP, you understand--and took off running. He tore around the bases like a 12-year old and did a perfect hook slide into 3rd. The other oldies laughed and screamed and it was one of the truly great moments I've ever had at Our Lady.

Wow, now the LA Times is reporting that Merlin Olsen passed away. It has been a sad week for LA fans that grew up in the 60's-70's. RIP Merlin, you were all class. It is such a shame that you never got into a Super Bowl.
