Note: I’ve got 4 criterion that I’ve used to grade lineups, rotations, bullpen, and overall depth (scale of 1-10, 10 being the best) for each team. I’ve totaled the points for the 4 categories and then determined my divisional orders from there.
AL EAST
Yankees
Orioles
Red Sox
Rays
Blue Jays
AL East Comments:
First, I honestly haven’t looked at any webs/blogs for the purpose of seeing their predictions. I’ve studied up a ton on individual players for fantasy and SIM purposes, but haven’t looked too much into teams and team chemistry. So I’m pleasantly surprised to see how the Orioles have put together their team this offseason. I gave them 6.5’s in their lineup and rotation, and 7’s in their ‘pen and depth. They should compliment each other well, and it might just be enough to squeak out a wildcard berth. The Yanks are stronger than the Sox everywhere except in their rotation, so the Sox may be 3rd, but lucky for them the Rays suck, and the Blue Jays are… the Blue Jays. And the AL East is no longer the pride of the AL. That goes to…. The Central.
AL CENTRAL
ChiSox
Twins (WC)
Tigers
Indians
Royals
AL Central Comments:
I like what the ChiSox have done this offseason. The only thing that’ll screw up my predictions for this division is a healthy Justin Morneau. If he’s back, the Twins make a serious run at the division title. But like last season, this is a difficult division to predict. Any of the top 3 teams could win it. The Twins bullpen depth beats out the Tigers for the WC.
AL WEST
Rangers
Mariners
Halos
A’s
AL West Comments:
The Rangers have the best offense – perhaps in all of baseball – IF they stay healthy. But that’s the one thing that makes predictions difficult. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Rangers and Twins in the ALCS, but it all depends in injuries. In the Rangers’ case, they have very good depth, so I give them the edge over all the other West teams. The Mariners have a nice 1-2 punch in their lineups and rotations. The ‘pen is unproven and they have little depth outside Ackley IMO (in terms of potential 2011 influence).
Championship Series: Twins vs. Rangers
I think Ozzie Guillen has some major gaffe (inside or outside the clubhouse – I don’t know), that has a huge affect on them vs. the Rangers in the ALDS.
AL WS Rep: Twins
The Rangers will greatly miss Cliff Lee in the 7-game series.
NL EAST
Braves
Fish
Phils
Mets
Nats
NL East Comments:
The will prove to be the 2011 version of the Rangers of 5 years ago. All pop, no arm. Livan Hernandez? Really? How does anyone get excited about that? You go ahead and follow the money, Jayson, but the Nats will be at the bottom once again. The Marlins should be the fun team to watch out of the NL East this year. The Phils will greatly disappoint. And do I really have to say anything about the Mets? Thank you.
NL CENTRAL
Reds
Brewers (WC)
Cubs
Cards
Astros
Bucs
NL Central Comments:
The NL West – home of the worst pitching rotation in all of baseball (a close second has to be the Nats), as Kevin Correia is the “Ace” of that bunch. But more importantly, how ‘bout them Reds! The Brewers are consistently 7’s in the 3 most significant categories I graded, but a little weak in depth. The Reds could challenge for it all this season, but their pitching will likely have a couple weak moments in the playoffs due to inexperience.
NL WEST
Rox
Dodgers
Gnats
Pads
Snakes
NL West Comments:
I’m a homer who can’t bring himself to type “gnats” ahead of my beloved Blue. But put the pressure on me, and you might hear me say it out loud. Regardless, it isn’t gonna matter, as I believe the Rox will win the division.
Championship Series: Brewers vs. Braves
AL WS Rep: Braves
WS Winner: Twinkies

I followed your instructions...

Matthew said:I'll join in (for once!), but later tonight. But before I do, I thought it might be funny to also add a category for guessing when (if?) McCourt sells. That should be worth a ton of points.
BluePastorKyle said:Wait, Nick, how did you follow my instructions before I actually posted them?
BluePastorKyle said:Alright, we have 13 participants so far. Let's get to 20+!
Nick, I fixed it for ya - no problem. I have an ulterior motive in that it helps me if predictions are formatted in similar fashions to one another, for when I go back and evaluate them mid-season and in October.
BluePastorKyle said:No sweat - since they're still coming in, I think it's cool to extend the deadline through to 5 PM (start of the Dodger game).
Any more predictors??? We need 2 more to get to 20!
BluePastorKyle said:That's cool James. You're good.
DoppelgangBang said:Man, this is a hard year to make predictions ... because hope actually doesn't spring eternal.
AL EAST
Red Sox
Rays (WC)
Yankees
Blue Jays
Orioles
AL East Comments: I like the Yankees lineup, but it's aging, and there's bound to be some decline from at least Jeter and Posada. I love CC, but seriously, who is taking the ball after him? That rotation is pathetic 2-5. They needed Cliff Lee so badly and I'm glad they didn't get him and aren't buying another championship this year. The Red Sox, however, may have done JUST that in picking up AGon and Crawford and adding them to Youkilis, Pedroia, Ellsbury, Big Papi and JD Drew. That's a really nice lineup. And they have great pitching. I like the Rays, but losing Garza AND Crawford has to hurt them at least a little.
AL CENTRAL
ChiSox
Twins
Tigers
Royals
Indians
AL Central Comments: I can't believe the Indians are behind the Royals here, but yep, that's what I'm picking. The addition of Adam Dunn to an already POTENT lineup makes Chicago just that much better and I think that they'll get some DECENT innings out of Peavy. Their rotation is good enough and their offense will carry them through some tough games in a very difficult division. I like the Twins, but I see some DL issues in their future with Mauer and Morneau not staying healthy. The Tigers have the right combination ... I'm seeing dueling aces in Verlander and Scherzer (AZ will REGRET that trade) and an offense led by the drunk---err, most powerful hitter in the game. Tigers win a DOGFIGHT and the other teams are too beat up to make the WC.
AL WEST
Halos
Rangers
A’s
Mariners
AL West Comments: This division just kinda sucks. The Rangers will really miss Cliff Lee and either CJ or Colby will turn into a pumpkin ... they have possibly the best lineup in the game, but pitching is what gets you to the post-season. While I think that Wells will disappoint, I like the Angels young boppers and their stellar rotation. Big year for Dan Haren followed closely by Jered Weaver. Angels might take this division with 83 wins. The Mariners are GOD-AWFUL and I don't like the A's that much more ...
Championship Series: Red Sox v. Tigers
AL WS Rep: Red Sox (too much all around talent)
NL EAST
Phils
Braves (WC)
Fish
Nats
Mets
NL East Comments: Nice top three in the division ... I think the Nats aren't quite there and the Mets have too little talent and too many distractions to actually stay competitive. I think the Phils offense has a down year, but man, you just can't doubt that rotation. They could lose two aces and still compete for the division. Amazing. The Fish lack the pitching to stay in it, but I predict a MONSTER year from Stanton (who will be traded within 3 years). The Nats will get a nice year out of BOTH Zimmermans, but Werth disappoints. The Braves are a solid team with the potential to be excellent. Watch out.
NL CENTRAL
Brewers
Cards
Reds
Bucs
Cubs
Astros
NL Central Comments: This is a tough, tough division to pick. In the end, the Brewers are too well-rounded to lose it. Great offense and really nice SP: Greinke, Gallardo, Marcum - I love it. I think Marcum, out of the dreaded AL East, will have a huge year and even Randy Wolf will catch the spirit and make a very decent 4th SP. I just can't pick the Cubs ... and the Bucs MAY finish in last this year, again, but I'm pulling for them and I think that James McDonald is going to get Ned Colletti fired. One can ONLY hope.NL WEST
Rox
Gnats
Dodgers
Pads
Snakes
NL West Comments: I just don't see it. I wish I did.
But I just don't. Troy Tulowitzki wins the MVP and the Rockies cruise
to the playoffs with a big year at the dish and some nice pitching. I
think San Fran's offense falls apart, and so does Lincecum's arm ... and
Bumgarner and Cain give a nice effort, but just aren't enough.
Championship Series: Brewers v. Phillies (epic pitching matchups, Greinke MELTS, but still ...)
NL WS Rep: Brewers
WS Winner: Red Sox (UGH, another Championship trophy BOUGHT AND PAID FOR)

I'll post the half-way results on Monday, July 11. But I thought everyone might enjoy a peek at your predictions from late March. Should make for a nice laugh or two for most of us.
