Looks like that new downtown stadium in Los Angeles will get a tenant quite soon.   Appears that Stan Kroenke is positioning the Rams for a return to Los Angeles by taking one home game away from the folks in St. Louis by being the home team in the annual London game for the next three years.   Seeing as how Kroenke can break his lease with the city of St. Louis in three years, it gives plenty of time to get the Farmer's Insurance Field completed.

Reports now saying that Joe Paterno has died at 85 of lung cancer, although there's some disputing it.  Either way, he's probably closer than not.  What a whirlwind couple of months at Penn State.

    Hard times at Penetration State.

I really don't know what to say about the death of Joe Paterno.  On one hand, he allowed a pedophile to run rampant, even though he claims to have passed on the information to his superiors.   I feel that friend or not, he should've went to the police when he saw nothing being done.  But, on the other hand, he was one of the last of the old school coaches who treated the job as a career and not a stepping stone to more money and publicity.

College football has really lost a lot of its luster, for me.  It's not just the Penn State fiasco, either, but the other point you made about coaches.  Close to my heart, the University of Houston was 12-0 and all they had to do was beat Southern Miss. in the C-USA championship game.  Unfortunately, their coach, Kevin Sumlin (sumbitch, Scumlin, the nicknames are now endless) decided his career was more important than the UH football team, university, and alumni.  His recruitment by Texas A&M became the story and a complete distraction to the team.  Predictably, after dominating every team (soft schedule) completely since September, they came out flat and blew a guaranteed BCS bowl invite.  The millions of dollars their loss and failure to play in a BCS bowl game cost C-USA, made Scumlin's salary look puny.

Oh, for the good old days when Darrell Royal was at UT, Bill Yeoman at UH, Bear Bryant at Alabama, etc., etc.

Yeah, it looked like he was getting ready to celebrate when the ball was knocked from him.  Cameron and Harbaugh's play-calling at the end was not exactly brilliant, either.

If I'm Kyle Williams, I'm catching the first plane out of SFO.

While I'm always thrilled to see pain and suffering inflicted on Jim Harbaugh, I was pulling for the 49ers.  Brutal finish.  Didn't help that Alex Smith picked today to play like Alex Smith.

And, of course, Kyle Williams and Billy Cundiff probably just landed an endorsement from Southwest; wanna get away?

Living among the bandwagon jumpers, I was quite happy with this game.  I don't mind the folks who have been Niner fans through thick and thin, but the Faux Niner fans (Raider fans who jumped the ship) irritate me.   Half of the folks I know up here are Raider fans who found religion (as it were) and became Niner fans.  They will be back to being Raider fans when Winston Moss turns the Silver and Black around.

YES! That's so annoying. Of course, the Lakers choose the most appropriate year to play like the Clippers also.

This upcoming Super Bowl is one that I definitely plan on watching from start to finish. NFL couldn't have asked for a better matchup, than I suppose Niners vs Ravens.

Been a clipper follower (fan is reserved for those who root for winning - folly for followers of the clips) since '05.  Now that the team is good/exciting/buzzworthy is there a change in LA basketball culture?  I'm in the bay area, where the amount of clippers fandom hasn't changed since at least '07.

Absolutely, a Clipper ticket is quite the commodity nowadays here. You see more people wearing Clipper jerseys around as well. At least here at my school.

Clipper fans have a reason to be excited for the future. It's finally good for them to see a dose of good karma passed their way. They have a great starting 5, deep bench and although I don't think Del Negro is that great of a HC, he just might be able to get them further than they've ever been since in LA.

On to the Lakers. Wow! What a difference a year makes. So many things wrong with this squad/FO. Starts with Jim Buss and works it's way down and settles on the roster. They will make the playoffs, but not get too much further that just that.

Great NFL champion games! It could have easily been Niners and Ravens and probably should have been. A few of the Niner players (especially Kyle Williams) picked the wrong time to drop an egg (or football).

You have to give credit to Eli Manning. He got sacked SIX times, knocked to the ground TWELVE times and hit TWENTY times!! And yet still hung in there and carried his team to the Super Bowl.

Love to see a great SB repeat of these games that were just played. History usually doesn't provide us that. Lets hope that's not the case and there is a slug out game.
  • It's being reported that Junior Seau has died as a result of a possible suicide.  Wow.

R.I.P.  One of the great ones.

Shot himself in the chest. I wonder if he left a note asking to have his brain to be researched for damage like some athletes have recently who have committed suicide.
