Way to go to Clayton Kershaw, winner of this year's NL Cy Young.  Well deserved.

  • ThrowdeuceThrowdeuce November 2011
    Woo hoo
27 1st, 3 2nd and 2 3rd place votes is how it broke down for him
  • BluePastorKyleBluePastorKyle November 2011
    WOOT!
  • UCSB07 November 2011
Woo hooo!!!!! The kid deserved every first place vote he got
  • minndodger November 2011
Ian Kennedy got 1 first place vote.  I am guessing that someone lost a bet.
  • Chin+MusicChin Music November 2011
Amazing! Congrats to Kershaw. Hope we can keep him.

I'd love to hear the explanation for the 3rd place votes.  Those must be the idiot voters who don't think anyone on a non-playoff team should ever win an award.

Actually I'm more amazed Kennedy got 1 1st place vote, why, how? At least Halladay and Lee have very similar numbers across the board with Kershaw, Kennedy doesn't come close to all three, except in wins, which we all know is not the best stat to judge a pitcher on.
  • Congrats to Clayton! He was simply awesome this year! He and Kemp were the 2 big bright spots in an otherwse tumultuous year.

I get the feeling this is just the first of a few Cy Youngs for Clayton.

  • WickedCurvesWickedCurves November 2011
I can't even put into words how happy I am about this.

The third place voters are likely from voters who have slept with Jamie...  (a quid pro quo, so to speak!)

Actually, in a league dominated by solid pitching, it's incredible that Clay was so dominant in his victory.  Awesome!
  • conklinaj November 2011
    Great job, Clay!
  • bigblasterbigblaster November 2011
Beyond awesome!  NOW, let's get that MVP for the Bison!
  • arbfuldodger November 2011
WTG Sunshine!!! Hopefully the first of many for the man (all in that beautiful Dodgers uni)
Whatever they were doing, Dad was winning

Was there any doubt?   Opie in a landslide.
  • PhillieBluePhillieBlue November 2011
It was a pleasure to watch him pitch all season.

I am guessing that someone is related to one Mr. Joe Morgan.

To continue the earlier thought; we now know who was foolish enough to not vote for Opie.  Keep in mind, every single Pitching Triple-Crown winner in MLB history has been awarded the Cy Young!  These idiots voted against history... not a wise place to put oneself!  From Kissy:
"The first-place votes for Halladay were cast by Ken Davidoff of Newsday (NY), Zachary Levine of the Houston Chronicle, Keith Law of ESPN and Scott Miller of CBS Sports. The first-place vote for Kennedy was cast by John Maffei of the North County Times, representing the San Diego chapter of the BBWAA."

Now we know who to add to our Official BBWC Blacklist... Surprisingly, there were no Halladay/Kennedy "homers".
  • True2DaBlue November 2011
In a time in that we usually hear negative news about our team, it's great to hear something positive.

And to think that this kid  is only 23 years old?!

What a great year for Clayton and so well deserved!

Law makes his case for Halladay in his story at ESPN.com.  The stats he picks out do back his play, plus he tends to downgrade Opie for having success against the Giants and Padres, two teams with weak offenses.   The stat he does ignore is Opie's record against teams over .500 compared to Halladay's.   Opie's .750 versus teams over .500 crushes Halladay's .500 versus teams over .500.
  • GenericFan November 2011

He didn't just beat the Giants though... he beat LINCECUM -- *4* times  ...  by scores of 2-1, 1-0, 2-1 and 2-1.

    Law is a dolt.

  • BluePastorKyleBluePastorKyle November 2011
4-0 against Stinky this season, with a 0.30 ERA.

    Filthy.
