It's Here?! Potentially the BBWC Fantasy Basketball Thread

    If you didn't pick it up from the title, I'd like to play fantasy bball this season and think a BBWC league would be great.  I started a league (known as the BBWC Fantasy Basketball League) over at ESPN.  If you are currently a member of the BBWC football league, you will use your same login info to play in the basketball league.

    First, the administrative stuff.

    Everything below can be changed before the draft!

    The league currently has 10 teams (nine empty slots).  I would have no problem bringing that number up to 12 if people are interested, but I think it's more likely that less than 10 will be interested.  If you are interested in owning a team this season, please do one of the following.

    -Post any email address you can use below
    -Email me at [email protected]
    -If you want to keep all of your email addresses private (I totally understand), make a new one and tell me.

    This is slightly different than the system for joining the Football League.  The cause?  I wanted to be League Manager so I could alter pre-season stuff while we are deciding on a draft date, number of teams, etc...  Once the season begins, I will not use my LM powers for anything unless every single owner wants something done.  I am no David Stern.

    The league, like the BBWC Football League, has each team playing an opponent over a 7 day stretch.  However, in this system it is not a winner take all scenario.  

    Teams score by racking up totals in 8 categories.  They are...

    Points
    Rebounds
    Steals
    Assists
    Blocks
    3 Pointers
    Free Throw %
    Turnovers*

    *The team with the lower total wins.

    Each category represents one "game".  If the team wins 5 of the categories and loses 3 of the categories, it is credited for 5 wins and 3 losses.  More commonly known, your team went 5-3 that week.

    I chose these categories because they represented mostly counting categories, balanced out by a negative counting category and a percentage stat.  Standard leagues have FG % instead of turnovers.  I feel that this combination essentially rigs the league so the Dwight Howard's team is guaranteed to player Lebron's team in the finals.  

    Turnovers, I believe, is more fair to all teams.  It similarly effects ball handlers and high usage big men.  This switch should correct some of the "game breaking" team builds.

    Finally, I want to set the draft for next sunday (a week from today).  Please comment if it works or does not work for you.  We are (potentially) doing this early enough where we can get everyone who wants to participate in the live draft in attendance.

    Interesting.  I was pondering doing a BBWC Fantasy Basketball League, but wasn't sure there'd be enough interest.  But glad you did it.

    I haven't set the date yet.  Once we fill the league we will coordinate.  Hopefully (if we can fill the league in the next 3-4 days) sunday the 18th.  One week before the christmas openers.

    Damnit!

    Unfortunately, I had to create a new league for the basketball season.  Any league that has a League Manager can't be simply opened to the public.  Here is the new league.


    Join ASAP

    The draft is scheduled for Saturday, 12/24, at 3:30 Pacific.  If this time does not work, I will change it to accomodate the BBWC owners.

    I'm cautiously optimistic.  I was pleased that a couple players fell to me (josh smith) and displeased when a couple targets were taken just before I could.  Yeah, I'm good with the draft.

    Same, I picked one of my backup PG choices and a few other people. Just angry that after Dwight Howard, maybe Al Jefferson, there really aren't any other good centers in the league. 

    Another question: How is the scoring tallied? I see that I am 6-2-2 and my opponent is 2-2-6.
