Modelo Light in the can is actually probably the best Mexican beer, but they don't sell it many places. I think I put away a good 100 or so of those in 3 days while in Cabo a few years back.

Scout.com is putting out their top 50 Dodger prospect list. For those of you who might consider subscribing, do yourself a favor and keep the money in your wallet. Bill Shelley is a hack and his band of high school dropouts rarely string together coherant sentences in their 'articles.'

Last year Shelley claimed that Jovanny Rosario projects to hit for power, making him the franchise's only five-tool prospect. This year? He's nothing more than a singles hitter. His scouting is inconsistant and his writing will test your gag reflexes.

Makes me think the BBWC should come together and put out a real top 50 list.

Bill is getting on in years. He might be suffering from the same malady as most of the BoSPiN types - short memory.

I wanna play on the top 50, also.

Shelley is at EVERY GCL Dodgers game, and I respect his knowledge. He also has a good pipeline to the Dodgers' scouting group. He has a huge amount of trust and respect for Logan White, so that means something.

I like Shelley, also, but after reading his scouting report the other day, it was like he changed his mind on nearly half the players. I know some players do not improve as they are supposed to, but I am wondering if there might be something clouding his judgement. Rosario, a singles hitter? He showed very nice pop in Ogden, lots of extra base hits. Maybe, there is something in Rosario's makeup that Bill is disappointed with. I expected Rosario to spend half of last season at Inland Empire or Great Lakes, but he didn't move up, which confused me somewhat.

Jared, aka ThinkBlue116 (formerly GAGNECY03) on the Scout.com board, runs his own Dodgers blog, ThinkBlueLA. He is very much into the draft and minor league system, so is pretty knowledgeable for someone outside of the organization. He put his Top 50 up following the end of the 2007 season (October). I have noted his choices below. I also noted the website for anyone interested. It is quite a comprehensive listing. He doesn't post there every day in the off-season, just usually when something occurs, i.e. Kuroda/Jones signings, in which case he will break it down. During the season, he will note the scores and key stat lines of every game within the organization.

ThinkBlueLA Top 50 (List from October 2007)

Amen, I dropped some coin on a subscription a year or two ago and I couldn't have been more disappointed. They are the worst writers I've ever read, hands down. And how you don't spell check something that you're putting on the internet as official journalism is just beyond me. Like you said, it will test your gag reflexes.

Sorry, Sam, but I have to disagree. Obviously, Shelley has more access than any of us. But so does Ken Rosenthal and that doesn't make him a good reporter. Shelley's scouting reports have been horrible for the last three years I've read them. One year a pitcher will have a fastball, curveball, change and the next he'll have fastball, slider, change. His reports are inconsistant and I hate that I've wasted money over there. And the fact that he surrounds himself with those other bozos makes his section of scout.com look like a poorly situated high school newspaper.

I'd like to think that despite what limited coverage we get to these players as fans (webcast, radio, publication, some games in person) we could do a much better job with a list than the guys that make you pay to see theirs. So, Torgy and I are touching base and we'll be talking with others on the board to get opinions as well. I've also e-mailed the Dodgers' public relations and asked to interview one of Logan White, De Jon Watson, Tim Hallgren or Chris Haydock. So hopefully we can really turn this into something for this community.

    FYI -

Sickels is set to release his Dodgers Top 20 on his website, probably tomorrow. BA did their Dodger Top 10 a couple of weeks ago, and just finished all the teams in the NL.

I like Jared and his blog and agree with him a lot more than Shelley. But keep in mind that this isn't saying that our list is better than anyone else's, I just think it could be an exciting thing for the board to have going. So we'll see where it leads.

I'd like to ask Hag, Bluefan and anyone else who wants to share their opinion of the Dodger farm system to e-mail me at outrunningthedevil@yahoo.com. If you've watched these players or studied the farm, we'd like to get a feel for what the entire board thinks.

The Dodger list by John Sickel's has been put off for a couple of days. Apparently he has had to deal with a few trolls/out of control posters over the last couple of days which has put him behind on the prospect book. Should be up in a couple of days he said.

Corey, I've only seen Jacksonville play about 6 or 7 times the last couple of years, but I do keep up with things pretty close and I'd love to have a part in what you are doing with your list. E-mail me at voicet@bellsouth.net if I can be of assistance.

For all our minor league guru's here is Sickel's Dodger Top 20 list:

Los Angeles Dodgers Top 20 Prospects for 2008

All grades are EXTREMELY PRELIMINARY and subject to change.

    Clayton Kershaw, LHP, Grade A

Andy LaRoche, 3B, Grade A- (I still really like him)

    James McDonald, RHP, Grade B+

    Chin-Lung Hu, SS, Grade B

    Jonathan Meloan, RHP, Grade B

    Dewlyn Young, OF, Grade B-

    Chris Withrow, RHP, Grade B-

Scott Elbert, LHP, Grade C+ (would rank higher if healthy)

    Blake DeWitt, 3B, Grade C+

    Andrew Lambo, 1B, Grade C+

    Pedro Baez, 3B, Grade C+

    Josh Bell, 3B, Grade C+

    Ivan DeJesus, SS, Grade C+

    James Adkins, LHP, Grade C+

    Xavier Paul, OF, Grade C+

    Justin Orenduff, RHP, Grade C+

Austin Gallagher, 3B, Grade C (might rank at C+, still thinking)

    Jamie Hoffman, OF, Grade C

    Jaime Pedroza, SS, Grade C

    Ramon Troncoso, RHP, Grade C

There are 16 other players in the book rated Grade C, all of them interchangeable in the lower spots on this list. This system took a hit from major league graduations last year, but they have the ability to recharge quickly and several of these Grade C+/C guys have strong potential at higher levels, though we need to see more information

LaRoche may rank a notch too high at Grade A- but I still really love him.

The story ends with me putting him in the wall!
