    Tonight...

New York Mets (36-27 - 1st place in NL East)

    vs.

Los Angeles Dodgers (37-28 - Tied for 1st place in NL West)

    at...

    Tonight's Starting Pitchers:

NYM: Jorse Sosa (RHP: 6-1, 2.64 ERA. 0-0, 3.48 ERA vs. the Dodgers).

Sosa allowed no runs, three isolated singles, a double that Carlos Beltran might have caught and one walk over eight innings on Friday against the Tigers, a team on its way to at least 900 runs. He struck out five while picking up the win, his third straight.

LAD: Brad Penny (RHP: 7-1, 2.26 ERA. 3-10, 6.16 ERA vs. the Mets).

Bouncing back from a lackluster performance at Pittsburgh, Penny was masterful on Friday night, as he limited the Blue Jays to a single run over 7 2/3 innings. Penny walked none and struck out seven, but he was denied a victory when closer Takashi Saito was unable to protect a 2-1 lead in the ninth. This will be his first start against New York this season.

    Tonight's Starting Lineup:

    1.

    Rafael Furcal - SS

    2.

    Juan Pierre - CF

    3.

    Nomar Garciaparra - 1B

    4.

    Luis Gonzalez - LF

    5.

    Russell Martin - C

    6.

    Wilson Betemit - 3B

    7.

    Matt Kemp - RF

    8.

    Tony Abreu - 2B

    9.

    Brad Penny - P

The Dodgers and Mets will close out the three-game series on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium with the Dodgers looking to sweep the Mets for the first time since Aug. 18, 2002. The Dodgers will put All-Star Brad Penny on the mound in the finale. Penny will face the team that he has had the least success against in his eight-year career. He is 3-10 with a 6.16 ERA in 16 career starts against the Mets. In his only start against the Mets last season, a loss, the hard-throwing righty allowed seven runs on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings. The Mets counter with right-hander Jorge Sosa, who his looking for seventh win of the season and his fourth in a row. Sosa is 0-0 with a 3.48 ERA in 10 1/3 innings in five games (one start) against the Dodgers. The Mets are in the midst of their worst losing streak this season, having lost four in a row and nine out of 11.

    Player To Watch:

Wilson Betemit made a rare start on Tuesday and may be back in the lineup against Sosa on Wednesday. Betemit had two hits, including a homer.

Wright tries to stretch it to a double, but we get him.

Run scores. Time to get it back, guys!

Wright singles to right, scoring JugEars, but Martin nails Wright at second for the third out. 1-0, Mess. I agree, Zwil, hitters are gonna take liberties with Gonzo Sucks' arm.

Hah. Abreau is at second. Meat's at third, and he did make that play. Vin would never lie.

Right when I think Little is starting to get it, his head goes firmly up his ass again and goes back to his Tracy-esque ways. I've really grown to hate "Low Rider."

I gotta agree. Loney plays two games and gets two ribs...Nomar hasn't had that kind of production in weeks.

A much better inning for Penny as he strikes out Valentin on a 97 MPH fastball. At the end of 1.5, 1-0 Mets.

Just some food for thought as Valentin strikes out. Clayton Kershaw's line 7ip, 5h, 0r, 2bb, 8k his era is now 1.89. Logan White is God!

Well. Distractions came up. But the inning looked good.

Penny dialing it up to 95 to finish off the affair was just flair.
