Winner: CLE CC Sabathia
Notes: In a year where the candidates are relatively closely matched, if Bedard had finished up the year healthy
(he made only 28 starts) he would have been the hands down favorite with 15+ wins, a comparable ERA,
the lowest BAA amongst contenders and the league leader in strikeouts (250+).

As much as it pains me, I see the writers giving the award to Josh Beckett. His numbers are comparable and he has the BoSPiN publicity machine working on his behalf. I would rather prefer Sabathia or Lackey to get the award, but it will end up on a Red Sox player.
I'll play the radio on Southern stations because Southern Belles are Hell at night...It's Sabathia, no contest. I never pay attention to wins for a pitcher, but if you want to know a good reason to give it to Sabathia, here's one:
Innings Pitched:
C.C. Sabathia - 241
John Lackey - 224
Josh Beckett - 200.7
To throw nearly 20-40 more innings than your competitors and still put up those numbers is pretty damn impressive.

I have always thought that the only stat that impresses the Eastern Bloc of Sportswriters is the name on the front of the jersey stat. I have seen more than a fair share of Yankee/Red Sox hurlers get votes not for their pitching expertise, but for the name on the front of the jersey. Remember, sportswriters are a stupid lot and wouldn't know Cy Young from Matt Young (think back Dodger fans...a torchable lefty coming out of our pen in the 80's).

I am just glad they had to vote before tonights playoff game, othewise Beckett would win it hands down. He is dealing! One baserunner (a Figgins single to lead off the game) and 5 K's/0BB through 5 IP.

Whoa!!! Matt Young. I had forgotten he ever pitched for the Dodgers. I had to look it up, because I was ready to challenge that. Good ol' BaseballReference.com saves me from size 13 in mouth one more time.
Who just said they don't look at W-L record? M. Young's was an atrocious 55-95. Ouch!
Yeah ... he pitched for the blue in 86 and/or 87 I believe.
SamAdams:Who just said they don't look at W-L record?
That would be me. Way too dependent on other variables to accurately measure ability.
