Hell, even BoSPiN has more to offer than network television.

I don't watch ESPN anymore. I've watched maybe 15 minutes of it since the baseball season ended. SportsCenter is complete garbage, as is their other programming. I get my sports news off of the internet or a regional FSN network.

I get my sports fix from ESPN News and hopefully Cindy Brunson. Can't sit through much of FSN's programming and SportsCenter is a travesty. Thankfully, the NFL Draft will be broadcast by the NFL Network and I won't have to listen to Berman and his gaggle of idiots. I did get one bit of good news, Sean Salisbury was shown the door by BoSPiN. Maybe BoSPiN is getting the clue and will get rid of the fools, cretins and sub-humans. The minute they fire Stephen A. Smith, I celebrate. Man says less in ten minutes than any politician I have ever listened to.

    Don't forget Skip Bayless.

I hate to state the obvious (and thereby take away the only 'breaking news' Jay ever has), but if that happened . . . Bristol would be less populated than a ghost town.

    I am bad.

Kyle, a new thread doesn't have to be started. We've already got an idiots thread; stuff just gets side-tracked in other areas.

In an attempt to get us back on track, Kershaw apparently impressed the brass yesterday and he and Torre met face-to-face. I still am hoping we don't rush him this year. I think everyone is hoping we won't need to.

I read that also. You could practically see Torre drooling in the story. I am tempted to check Benny the Jackass's thread at the Auld Board to see if more info can be gleaned. Something like how hard Kershaw was throwing, the shape of his curve, the changeup, his plans for his first $100 million contract...

Bayless, like Stephen A. Smith, are useless self promoters who couldn't combine for a healthy brain cell. Add Berman and most of the BBTN crew and you have a collosal gaggle of idiots that would challenge any other country's Olympic Idiot Team. The really sad part is that the sheep who worship BoSPiN don't realize that they are led by morons, buffoons and cretins. Just listening to Steve Phillips today gave me a headache and made me wonder just how many pictures he has of the suits at BoSPiN having sex with farm critters.

For a guy who spent years in baseball, Phillips has less knowledge of the game than the tomato I am going to dice up into tonight's salad. I used to think that Kruk was the biggest idiot on BBTN, followed by that fawning sycophant, Karl Ravech, but Phillips has surpassed both in one game this year. I mean, I look at all the smart players and front office types who are out of work and I see blithering idiots like Phillips, Kruk, Gary Thorne, Joe Morgan and Ravech covering the game I love while guys like Harold Reynolds, Billy Samples, Orel Hershiser and Orestes Destrade get left behind because they are not "buffoonish twits". It is truly sad that John Kruk can get a bully pulpit to spout his moronic (and usually wrong) opinions, while someone in the know like Orel is cut off at the knees as soon as he doesn't genuflect at the BoSPiN Party Line.

To be fair, neither Reynolds nor Billy Sample is out of work; they each work for MLB.com, Reynolds sometimes even has his own show. I've met them both, each extremely friendly and personable.

That's the problem with Bospin; they go for the cheap shrill moron who appeals to the casual fan who bases his opinion of players solely on how they performed last season in his fantasy league. They all continue to hail the Mets as "clearly the team to beat" in the NL, and even mentioned the Padres as a "team to watch" over the Blue. I mean give me a freaking break; with an OF of J.Hairston/J.Gerut, Edmonds, Giles you have to be freaking kidding me. John-Ford could triple in a HS park with that concoction of garbage playing the field.

    Baseball Prospectus:

    5. Los Angeles Dodgers
    Last Year's Ranking: 5
Why They're Unchanged: Clayton Kershaw became the top lefty prospect in the game, and the '07 draft added even more pitching depth; Chin-Lung Hu added an offensive game to supplement his already Gold Glove-caliber defense.
Strengths: Andy LaRoche and Hu make one of the top left sides in the minors, and there are more third basemen and shortstops to brag about beyond them; power arms.
Weaknesses: Outfield prospects; catchers; right-side infielders.
Outlook for 2009 Ranking: Little movement, but possibly down if the Dodgers do the right thing and make LaRoche their everyday third baseman this year.

    I am bad.

This is an outstanding article with a good overview of some of our most talented minor leaguers.

Good morning, only a couple days until the Clayton Kershaw Experience hits the Southern League for a return engagement. The Suns open in Jackson, TN against the Diamond Jaxx. I plan on listening to the game on MiLB.com audio. I figure the Diamond Jaxx will be short work for the Minotaur, but still I am nearly more interested in his season than Lowe's outing tonight.

Did the morning check on the rosters for the four farm teams who begin play on Wednesday. Strangely enough, Jovanny Rosario and Andrew Lambo haven't been assigned yet and fast risers like Tim Sexton and James Adkins are both stuck in low A. I am thinking that Adkins might start out in San Bernardino for a short bit, before making the trip across country to join The Minotaur and JMac on the Suns' staff. Sexton should also be pitching for the 66ers, he is advanced as a pitcher and it would be a waste having him overmatch kids in the Midwest League.

Chris Withrow, our top pick, last year, was assigned to Ogden, but that might be rushing him a bit. He does have all the tangibles to be a number two or three, but I would prefer he spent time learning how to pitch in the GCL. Ogden can put the fear of the homer in a pitcher, especially a young one.

While I am here (and not running through the door to get in eighteen holes before the weather gets nastier), I was looking over our minor league depth chart and we are freakin' stacked. We got guys like Rosario, Hoffman, Kanaby, Pedroza, Watt, Danielson, Guerra, Smit, Castillo, Leach and Ortiz (to mention just a few) who aren't even ranked in our top thirty, who would be top ten or top twenty in most any other organization. I have to give some credit to Dan Evans for bringing in Logan White, without him, we wouldn't have this kind of bounty.

I'll play the radio on Southern stations because Southern Belles are Hell at night...

    Torgy,

Actually, I think Ogden is the perfect place for Withrow to continue his journey. The main difference between the two Rookie clubs, Odgen and Gulf Coast, is the length of the season. Ogden plays about 70 games, while Gulf Coast only about 40. Placing him at Ogden will allow him to get a regular turn in the rotation (about 12 starts) with a chance at a late season call up to Great Lakes (A), where he would be headed in 2009. He would still get some time in extended ST, but we would be able to gradually increase his innings this way.

I am thinking that the Blue will be very patient with Withrow. He didn't pitch much in high school and he was profiled as third baseman when he signed with Baylor. I think the Dodgers will show due diligence and let the kid move up the ladder more slowly than Kershaw or Billz. Granted, his clock is running and getting a dozen starts in Ogden might do him more good than seven or eight starts in the GCL Complex. But, he is very raw and I wouldn't want him to go out there and throw 100+ innings off the bat. Given this teams track record on our kid arms and their need for TJ surgery, I would hope that DeJon Watson and his people will watch this kid intently. He has the multi-million dollar arm and it would be a waste to have him lose eighteen months by rushing him and he blows up his elbow.

I'll play the radio on Southern stations because Southern Belles are Hell at night...

I hear what you are saying, that is why I want him to go to Ogden, so we can gradually increase his innings. At Odgen he should get anywhere from 12 to 15 starts or about 60 to 75 innings. Since most top HS arms usually get close to that in the condensed HS season he should be ok with that workload. Then we can bump him up to Great Lakes in 2009. Here is the scenario that I picture.

2008 (75 pitches max per start)
    Ogden (R) 15 12 65.0
    Great Lakes (A) 5 0 10.0
    Season Totals 20 12 75.0

2009 (80 pitches max per start)
    Great Lakes (A) 25 18 105.0
    Inland Empire (A+) 5 0 10.0
    Season Totals 30 18 115.0

2010 (85 pitches max per start)
    Inland Empire (A+) 24 20 125.0
    Jacksonville (AA) 6 0 10.0
    Season Totals 30 20 135.0

2011 (90 pitches max per start)
    Jacksonville (AA) 28 24 145.0

2012 (90 pitches max per start)
    Jacksonville (AA) 10 10 65.0
    Las Vegas (AAA) 15 15 85.0
    Season Total 25 25 150.0

That would work, Blue. I just hope we don't have to rush the kid. By playing it this way, the kid would 23/24 when he reaches the show, the perfect age, IMO, for a kid to be a ML rookie pitcher. I just wonder how closely they would want to monitor him. Then again, we have some fine coaches at Ogden, so it isn't like he is gonna be left to his own devices.

The Dodgers were represented among the 12 or so scouts a high school game yesterday to watch Patriot High catcher Kyle Skipworth, who recently set a state record for notching 18 consecutive hits.
