The "Chicken Wars"
  • Harpo May 2009
Curious about the topic title?  That's what Nancy Luna, author of the Orange County Register's "Fast Food Maven" blog is calling the recent and ongoing series of "giveaway" promotions.

To update you in case you have been hibernating and missed it ...

Last week, Forkin' Lickin' Chicken (an old Army buddy's nickname for KFC) and El Pollo Loco both had "freebie" days. On Monday, KFC gave away one piece of their new grilled chicken. The next day, El Pollo Loco retaliated, but they gave away two – count 'em, TWO! – pieces, plus a pair of tortillas and free salsas.

Well, Forkin'-Lickin' has fired a return salvo:

Note the time parameters: They say that the coupon is valid through May 19 (excluding Mothers' Day), but you can only download it until "11:59 p.m. CDT" today.
    .
  • You can add El Pollo Loco to the list of fast food resturants that I miss living in Minnesota. The list includes In and Out, Del Taco, Jack in the Box and Der Weinersnitzel.
  • I like El Pollo Loco, my wife likes KFC, so I get to eat more KFC than El Pollo Loco.

I tried to print out the coupon, and their server timed out. When I tried again, it claimed I had already printed my one coupon allowed. Bastids.

Been getting into the sacramental wine again, padre?
  • Wine is to grape juice what a nice, beefy burger is to chicken.

    Mmmmm....burger....
  • I love Popeye's Chicken, but have been known to drive through the local Pollo Loco. KFC, meh! I used to like the original recipe, but now it is way too greasy.

Mmmmm. Popeye's. That's my fave, too.

    Damn, now I'm hungry.

Gotta get the mashed spuds with Cajun gravy. That is a delicacy. The only problem is that I am the only one in this house who loves Popeye's and I usually buy way too much. I get tired of four straight days of Popeye's leftovers for lunch as that is what it usually ends up being.
