Since we've had some good discussion on this board about this subject, and since the last few versions sung at Chavez Ravine have left something to be desired, I went ahead and found out who to contact about how one goes about auditioning for and getting the opportunity to sing the National Anthem or God Bless America at Dodger Stadium. Judging from the last few performances, their standards can't be too high.
So I just now emailed the person in charge, and asked for the privilege.
My family and I will be taking our annual Dodger Stadium trek June 5 and 6 (against the Phillies). They probably already have someone lined up to sing on those days, but one never knows...
- Kyle... CrossRoads ChurchAre you actually a singer? Have you sung the anthem before in public? Is this common knowledge, and it just escaped me?
Mike Scioscia's tragic illness - the blog! For Dodger analysis, reviews, and hilarity. My God-father sang the anthem several times, but that was years ago. Sweetest part was the tickets they gave him when he did it. Right behind the plate near Mike Brito when he used to hold the gun on every pitch. I'm sure you'll get the same treatment.

Based on the last few, um, "performances", that's clearly not a prerequisite.
Poor fella, he has no ideaYessir. I don't know if it's common knowledge 'round here, but I was a worship leader for 13 years before taking on the lead pastor role just a couple years ago.

Sweet. I'm hoping my credentials of "professional musician," APU Alum and President of the Choir, and of course, most important: Dodger fan of 32 years, will give me a fighting chance.

Maybe they'll let you perform the fly-over.
Every silver lining has a cloud. You'll do a whole lot better than the other people that have sang recently.
Especially yesterday's.
I don't even know how the last few people have sang, because I just keep muting it during the song. I feel a tiny bit guilty but then...I don't. Because I value my ears and my sanity. I can't hear that song again or I'm going to flip.
THAT BEING SAID, if you actually get to do it, I'll not only listen but be happy about it! Good luck!!!
Good grief - the girl who sang it tonight (just watched it on the DVR) was AWFUL. She changed keys at the end of the song. And it didn't work. Holy cow. That was painful. Don't the Dodgers have somebody who auditions these people???

I couldn't believe that. That surprised even me and I've seen some horrible renditions. Transposition at the end of the song? WTF?!
Mike Scioscia's tragic illness - the blog! For Dodger analysis, reviews, and hilarity. If they tell you the requirements, pass them on. I'd love to sing the National Anthem on the day I become an American citizen. I haven't ever sung it in public - saving it up.
Tonight was fabulous, unbelievable, awe-inspiring and everything that song should be. The idea that it was a former Dodger singing it makes it that much sweeter.

I said the same thing in the game thread. That was the way the song was meant to be sung.
I'll play the radio on Southern stations because Southern Belles are Hell at night...
Any truth to the rumor that Roseanne Barr is on the schedule.

Will do, moms. Haven't heard anything back yet, but since I sent it at 5 pm Wednesday night, the gal who's in charge of it might have been moved off her desk to help out in other areas...

Quite true! He did an excellent job.
