as you may or may not have seen the painful loss to the lil giants in yesterday's (5/10) in the 13th inning. something very interesting happened in the bottom of the 12th inning, after hitting a solo shot off closer brian wilson, to tie the game, casey blake was seen on a single shot in the dugout throwing up wilson's "x" across his chest. the mock was amazing. i was watching in a sports bar pre mother's day dinner (we were late but oh well) on a large television. i couldn't believe it. it brought much joy to me. because he's such a nice guy, it came as a shock.

now let's talk about casey. this crew has been known to bash casey blake from time to time. sure his contract may have been a little too lengthy. you can't fault the guy for that. he brings a veteran presence to the clubhouse that, in my opinion, jeff kent was expected to but could never do. i mean the guy bats 7th or 8th for the most part. has just recently cracked .260 but hit his team tying 6th homer yesterday. and in a very clutch situation. i think he's been solid at 3rd base. not too many bad decisions.

so i ask of you to give respect to our beloved bearded infielder. for a man to come here midseason last year, resign a new contract, and understand the rivalry means something to me. i agree, he does'nt exactly kill it with the numbers but he has heart. and to top it all off, vin scully loves him. fear the beard. your dugout gesture has won me over. the mighty casey.

we can also make this an anti-Brian Wilson thread too. as i can't think of many players in baseball i despise more than him. the haircut, the horrible tattoos, the post save ultimate fighting gesture. it's all bad. the guy is a tool.

Fully agree. I think highly enough of Casey to have him on my fantasy team. (He can be plugged in at 1B or 3B and should be OF, as well.) He's not getting much playing time because I have Adrian Gonzalez and Ryan Zimmerman ahead of him, but when they cool off or get hurt, I'll be glad I have TMIMITW on my roster.

Let's face it. We have all piled on JP a lot, too. It's not his fault that Ned panicked into giving him a ridiculous salary.

It is pretty amazing that this clown gets a pass by the local papers because he is supposed to be this high character guy. That is why it is so satisfying to see him get ripped for the recent admissions that he has no character. He is just a strong right arm, laced with tattoos, who has a bad haircut and the brain of a comatose sparrow.

As a boy, Casey built a city from blocks.

Today, over 600,000 people live there.

    Including Brian Wilson.

Poor fella, he has no idea

My problem has never been with Blake himself; he is exactly what he is, which is a mid 30s infielder who's started to decline from what was a good, but far from great, peak. He's still useful, especially in his versatility, and if you only need him to be your 7th or 8th place hitter, that's fine. I just thought that A) the trade Ned made was AWFUL, gave up far too much, and B) the contract Ned offered was silly, not so much in the $ as the years - that 3rd year is going to be painful.

Neither of these things were Blake's fault, so I don't get on him for that.

Besides, i thought what he did last night was hilarious. Now, I'm hearing that Wilson is upset not because Blake mocked him, but because the reason Wilson does that is for God and his dead father (I think - might not be 100% on those details, but it's something along those lines). Clearly, you can't expect Blake to have known that (if he did, then I agree that's a little offensive), so I have no problem with hitting a dinger off a guy and then making fun of his stupid hand signals.

I'll tell you what I liked about Thirsty's gesture: it was the 1st sign of a personality I've seen in him.

Include me in the "nothing-against-Thirsty" camp. He does what we expect of him. I like him well enough.

I had the people in the Dugout Club rolling Thursday night whenever TMIMITW stepped into the on-deck circle. The first time around they were scoffing at our observations, but by the end of the game, they were clearly onboard with the idea that Casey is The Most Intereseting Man in the World.

    Stay thirsty my friends.

The homerun was a big knock and is causing me to doubt my minimum moniker on him but first I have to see him get a clutch hit with someone in scoring position to win a game.

That being said my main problem with him is that I think Blake DeWitt today (albeit with less power right now)is a better player all around and makes less money plus we gave up way to much for him last year and signed him too long this year. Everytime I see the Indians I remember giving away a single A catcher with an OPS near 1000 and now he is a AA catcher (and the Indians top prospect) with an OPS over 900 and rising. Heck the brewers gave up less to the Indians for Sabathia.

The assumption that Blake is going to suffer a precipitous decline is a little presumptious at this point.

Right now Casey is hitting .264 with 6 HRs, 18 RBIs and an OPS of .847 in 104 ABs.

I think he will hit .270 with 25+ hrs and 90 RBIs, even batting down in the order. Plus play adequate defense at 3B.

I predict he will end up a Top 10 3B offensively when its all said and done this year.

Great 3B? No, but he definitely has stabilized a position of need.

I think DeWitt is going to be our starting 2B next year so I think Blake should provide productivity at least for 2010 as well as probably 2011.

Until a viable replacement for Blake emerges in the minors, I still think it was a good trade and re-signing by Colleti.

You must've missed the look he gave Sam Holbrook on the mystery third strike on Friday night. That was pretty good, he did the "I have one eye and can't see out of that one" look to Holbrook. If Holbrook had the brains of a freshly broken pencil, he would've run Thirsty.

I saw it when it happened and laughed, but didn't think too much about it. I know Casey has the reputation of being one of the good guys, but I think this is the 3rd incident he's been involved in since being with the Dodgers. Remember when he got tossed from a game last season for mocking the ump while he was in the dugout? Wow. It made the top story on Yahoo sports http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Brian-Wilson-isn-t-very-happy-with-Casey-Blake-r?urn=mlb,162567[\url].

It is pretty funny, actually. You should read the tough talk from the tools on the Gint board. Lot's of big talk by clowns who would likely piss themselves if they got into a fight with Slappy, much less Casey Blake. Brian Wilson deserves to be made fun of. He makes a big deal about his "beliefs", yet can party with Barry Zito and brag about it. His haircut is comedy and that stupid look he gives hitters when he gets ready to pitch wouldn't scare an anxious two year old. I am sure that if he wants to make a big deal of this, Wilson should ask Shane Victorino how we handle it.

While we're piling on the VaGiants, and I mentioned this on the game thread, so forgive the repetition.

Vin Scully said that Lincecum was quoted as saying that if he does not feel like it, he goes three days without a shower. Wow!

By the look of his hair, three days might be the low side of that estimate. Someone should explain to him that the mullet died in the early nineties.

That's funny, because fifteen minutes before Scully said that about the shower my wife, the fashion Nazi, said, "Does that guy ever shampoo his hair?"

This could get fun, according to this from Yahoo:

Talk radio in the Bay Area is buzzing with people and hosts who think Casey Blake is a punk (and some other words) and he will get drilled the next time the two teams meet up. He's apparently the new most hated Dodger in San Francisco. It will take a while to find out, the next Dodgers-Giants series isn't until August, but it should be interesting to see if this is still a story then. Anything that makes the rivalry more fun is okay by me.

That quote might be from the same link posted earlier today, but I couldn't find that one. This link seems to have popped up just recently.

But wow, Casey Blake is the new most hated Dodger in Frisco? Whoda thunk it?

    He's a lover, not a fighter.

But he's also a fighter, so the Giants shouldn't get any ideas.
